The winners of Australia’s biggest consumer opinion awards


When it comes to making a new purchase or trying out a new service, many become overwhelmed with the ever-growing list of choices available.

And now, much to the delight of shoppers across Australia, consumer opinion website ProductReview.com.au has revealed the winners from their annual awards. 

Each year, the site announces the products and services that have performed the best across an array of categories including appliances, electronics and online shopping.

Before crowning, a team of data and editorial experts analyse more than 110,000 reviews posted over the past 12 months to select one winner from 60,000 items across 75 product and service categories.

This year, the awards have delivered some surprising winners – the results showing that some newcomers and cheaper brands have climbed the consumer satisfaction ranks alongside popular household brands.

Here, FEMAIL looks at some of the top performing products and services of 2017 and what makes them just that little bit special. 

APPLIANCES

There were a total of 32 winners across the appliances category including an array of kitchen gadgets and household staples. 

When it came to vacuums, the popular $89 Kmart vacuum wasn’t good enough to knock trusted brands from the Best Stick Vacuum and Best Barrel Vacuum Cleaner categories.

Instead, it was the $1,000 Dyson V8 and the $549 Miele Complete C3 Powerline that took out those consecutively. 

‘What sets the Bissel vacuum apart is that it is unique in the market, combining steam cleaning with a powerful vacuum suction. The Dyson and Miele vacuums also have powerful suctions that have taken them to the top,’ Chris Perrine, a company spokesperson, said.

The Best Blender went to the popular Nutri Ninja 2 in 1 – the $79 appliance famed for its ability to blend frozen foods – while the Best Juicer was the Mod Cold Press Juicer, a $600 Australian made product.

Other appliances that took out the crown included the SAS hair straightener, Bosch SMS88TI01A dishwasher, Bosch Logixx front loading washing machine and DeLonghi Nespresso U capsule coffee machine. 

Top performing fridge brands across different design categories included Mitsubishi, Hisense and LG.

‘The Mitsubishi fridge’s size, small footprint, reliability and long warranty are big draw cards for buyers while the price point of the Hisense fridge puts it ahead of the pack,’ Chris said.

ELECTRONICS

There were two televisions that stood out from the rest in this category – the first being the LG OLED TV which took out the title of Best 4K Ultra HD TV.

The $6,799 TV includes Netflix recommended TV, no backlight, a smart TV built-in and highly refined sound quality.

The winner of the Best Full HD TV category was the Hisense K322.

Unsurprisingly due to it’s popularity, the Apple iPhone 7 Plus was named Best Mobile Phone and the Apple iPad Pro took out Best Tablet.

The $500 Bose QuietComfort headphones were found to be the best wireless headphones on the market.

There were three chic products that took put top prize across the pram and baby seat categories.

The Best Three-wheel Pram was awarded to the Baby Jogger City Mini Gt, a $799 creation designed with ‘all terrain wheels’ allowing parents to ‘go off the beaten path’.

The Best Four-wheel Pram was awarded to the Redsbaby Jive, an $849 Australian pram designed for ‘style savvy parents’ who love a sophisticated look.

The baby car seat named the best was the Britax Safe-n-Sound Millenia SICT – a $438 seat described as a ‘hassle free travel companion’ for busy parents.
